A person has a website that they add content to all the time, but it does not ever seem to make it high up in search engine result rankings. The question becomes why is this so? Do these search engines, like Google, Bing, Yahoo, and MSN not like the website? While there is the slightest possibility, most likely this is really not the case. Most likely the website needs authority. Authority means that the website is legitimate and has a bit of pull with it. Authority means that when traffic comes to a website, they learn something, buy something, and/or leave a comment or possibly even link to the website. The question now becomes how to obtain authority. Here are some tips.
One thing websites can do is submit a number of press releases online. These go to a number of outlets that will, in return, nab the website a few decent bank links. Press releases demonstrate that a website is willing to put out some money for their website and the website is not just a spammy junk website. A majority of these press releases are indexed in Google.
Directory listings are another way to obtain authority. There are numerous directories floating around cyberspace, including Yahoo Directory, Business.com, and Buzzle. There are paid directories as well as free directories. It is a great way to promote your website and helps websites jump in page rankings. It is one of the first things to do when starting any new SEO campaign.
If there is one strong thing that will enable a website to obtain authority it is obtaining recognition from a more established website. Getting links from established niche websites proves that the website has something to offer. It is better to have less than ten links from established niche websites than thousands of junk links that do not offer much in return. Sometimes just a few established links is all it takes to jump a few pages in search engine results. However, to keep those established links, websites will have to continue to churn out quality content. If a website does not have any connections, there are ways to get established links, including creating a free e-book, create a new tool that people can use and is related to the niche market, and/or solve a problem that is related to the niche market.
One last way to obtain authority is through having great content as well as strong interaction with traffic. The content of a website is what people are going to see and read as well as respond to. Engaging content is what people like to see and it is what is going to keep them coming back for more. The more traffic a website gets, the higher its authority will rise.
Building authority is extremely important. Without it, a website will be located in the Sahara Desert of search engine page rankings, never to be seen or heard of. By taking these few steps, websites can increase their authority as well as increase their standing on search engine results.
